United States has had several presidents under six feet tall. Eisenhower, Truman
and Carter were all under six feet tall. Lyndon Johnson and George Bush Sr. are
the two tallest U.S. Presidents ever, both about 6'5. As Madison proved, it's
the size of your ability that matters most, a fact not lost on the star of this
site. Thanks. |
Gerry, it was Madison, not Monroe who was short. I always get the two of them
mixed up.|
Holmes and he was asked 'What is the hardest punch you have ever been hit
with?'. Earnie Shavers was the answer! He said that Earnie made a mistake and
him too hard! If he hadn't hit him so hard he wouldn't have bounced on the
canvas and woke himself up! He also thinks very little about todays heavies and
little of Lennox Lewis (who I think Larry would have beaten). The fight I would
have most like to have seen would be Larry vs a prime Joe Frazier.I once heard
that Joe broke Larry's rib in sparring. |
fine champion in my opinion ! With 15.5 second only to Carnera for shoe size
among the heavweight champs, wilt, andre'*, powerful, his reach was almost as
long as Ray Impelletiere's, great jab, skillfull, great hand speed. His two
flaws were a not quite chuvalian chin and the fact that he was sometimes a
little too shy in the ring. When he lost against Has Been Rahman he was out of
shape and not focused. His only real loss was against Oliver Mc Call. He is the
best heavyweight Great Britain has ever had, better than Bruno, Cooper and
London. God save the Queen !* andre' is Texas slang ( and only Texas)
for big.|
|10/4/04 02:06:41 PM|Angelo|Washington, DC||funktron@yahoo.com||||10|What do you
mean his only real loss was to McCall? Rahman iced him good---a fair and sqaure
KO that put Lewis in la-la-land (He probably thought he was Donald Duck for a
few minutes.). Lewis was a very big guy who many times, was afraid to mix it up
for the reason that he couldn't take hard punches. Also, his height and reach
advantage made him a good outside fighter who didn't have to mix it up to win
boring decisions, so really, I'm not blaming him for the boring style, but he's
not an all-time great by any stretch. An in-prime Larry Holmes would dispatch
of an in-prime Lewis without terrible difficulty. |
|10/4/04 03:05:44 PM|Massimo|Roma||4||||10|I mean that he was in terrible shape
and his mind was everywhere but in the ring that night. He just understimated
Rahman. If you make(or do) a comparison between the Lewis who fought Rahman the
first time and the Lennox who fought Hasim the second time, you realize that is
like comparing Stanlio with Sir Isaac Newton. I think that judging (or to judge)
Lewis for the first Rahman fight is like judging (or to judge) Ali' for the
first Norton fight. I have read something about it on the Internet recently.
Ali' completely understimated Norton in the first fight. He thought he was going
to fight a bum. He spent a good part of the night before the fight laughing with
his friends and bragging. No surprise he fought a poor fight ( poor for the Ali'
standards, of course). I do think that the real proof of Norton's greatness was
the second fight. This time Ali' knew very well that Norton was no bum but still
barely won. I think probably Holmes would have outpointed Lewis but not by much.
Holmes had good but not great power. Lewis could hit much harder than Holmes.
At his best Lennox Lewis was really impressive.|
|10/4/04 03:26:39 PM|Angelo|Washington, DC||funktron@yahoo.com||||10|But you
make my point in your post---Ali underestimated Norton, had his jaw broken (many
say in the first round) but still gave Norton a great fight. He didn't get
cold-cocked like Lewis did on two occasions. Most of the time, the greats don't
come into a fight unprepared. When they do, they usually still win or give it a
