1930's.If so,I can't imagine a greater compliment to the Quarry family!The
living conditions of these people,the hardships of their journey,is what
produced the tough,close knit,tenacious families.This kind of American stock is
what produces people like Jerry and James Quarry .A few more families like this
clan,and maybe the terrorists would leave us alone. |

VS. LISTON.Liston was full of hot air about wanting to fight Jerry. Sonny
turned down a Seattle offer from Jack Hurley to fight Boone Kirkman. If he was
scared to fight Kirkman, he would have never have messed with Jerry. |

family bond comes from within, and Arwanda (Jimmy's mom) had taught the values

be very interesting, but I don't know how Jerry would've overcome Sonny's
powerful left jab. While I'm sure JQ would've been able to successfully
counterpunch, would he be strong enough for Liston? I'm not sure. Liston is a
tragic figure, hailing from the bleakest part of Arkansas, to prison in
St.Louis, to being used in the ring, to his losses against Ali. I did read where
he nearly beat Chuck Wepner to death in '69, I think. When he was on, a very
intimidating man. Jerry could outbox him, but would need to be very strong to
beat him. |

chance against a '68 Liston but not against a '58 - '62 Liston...few people
would have. The Liston is famous for a couple of things. One was the fantastic
beating Wepner took to his face which was so badly cut up that Al Braverman
did'nt know which one to work on. Secondly, a comment made by Liston after the
match...When asked 'Is Wepner the bravest man you have met'. Liston replied 'No,
his manager is'. Not reported on so much but clearly visible in the film is that
Liston decked the tough Wepner with a body shot.|
