skillful, he had very fast hands, could take a hell of a punchand had a huge
heart but...How many fighters did Jerry beat who had great jabs ? I'm
not an expert of Jerry's career but I think only Buster Mathis. What he suffered
the most were the great jabbers like Ali', Holmes and Spalla. Am I wrong
?PS: Shawn Bradley's shoe size is 17.|
could've been there to see it..i'm also very happy for my uncle Mike.happy to
see him in the spotlight for a change, just too bad he couldn't enjoy the
spotlight by himself.but wherever the spotlight is, the rest of the Quarry
family is right in the middle of it.....Thanks Kent!!!!|
offered a shot at Marciano before he retired but Cus Damato said Floyd will
"never get in the ring with Marciano". Floyd's plan was simply to wait unitl
Rocky retired. Did Gil Clancy really say that JQ was the hardest puncher he ever
trained? If he is claiming that JQ punched harder than Foreman, I have to
serioulsy evaluate him. JQ was a very good puncher, but few people, if any were
in George's league as a hitter. I think Jerry in his prime against a prime
Archie Moore would have been a good fight. |
would have taken Patterson out---it would only be a matter of time, but I see
Marciano beating him in the middle or later rounds with only some measure of
trouble. On the topic of "hard punching/hard punchers" I register my vote for
Earnie Shavers as the hardest puncher ever. George Foreman was a BETTER puncher
(more leverage and technique) but Shavers hit HARDER. You can acheive a
knockout by hitting hard or hitting smart. Look at Foreman vs. Frazier (first
fight especially). Foreman was using leverage to literally sweep Frazier up
into the air. Thomas Hearns was like this as well, using angles to destroy his
opponents (watch Hearns vs. Pipino Quevas for a lesson!). Maybe Clancy thought
that Jerry's punches were more explosive on impact---thus "harder" but that
would never make him a better KO artist than a guy like Foreman, who in my mind
was the most devestating knockout artist even if he didn't "hit as hard" as
Shavers or Tyson. |
|3/11/04 09:45:40 AM|Massimo|Roma||4||||10|Bob Satterfield was another
devastating puncher. Primo. Erminio. Francesco.|
|3/11/04 09:50:43 AM|John Gerard|NYC||rock289z@yahoo.com||||10|ANGELO: I agree
that Shavers was a great puncher but his power steadily declined after four or
five rounds, whereas Marciano never seemed to tire and had power even in the
later rounds. By round 13 or 14 Marciano would have been the harder puncher. I
would say, the hardest punching I ever saw was the first Foreman/Frazier fight.
was in the spotlight during his moment at the awards banquet. It was the
announcer who invited all of the family members there to join him on stage.
Besides Mike saying a brief thank you, your grandmother made a brief comment,
which I didn't write down and Bob made his brief comment, which I used in the
article, and that was about it. Mike wasn't overshadowed at all, even by Jerry
receiving an award posthumously. Mike also got a lot of attention from people
congratulating him afterwards. It was a good day for him.|
a million dollar offer (a fortune for the average person, and a lot then for a
fight) to fight Patterson. He may have realized that he'd begun his transition
to becoming an ordinary man again, and wouldn't have been his prime self,
