The parrot was hanging upside down from its perch, unblinking eyes staring
straight ahead, birdseed uneaten in a container, it can't fly, feathers stuck
together with riga mortis (Massimo ?), it's not breathing, no pulse, stone cold
dead, kapput.Anyway the store owner was trying to sell the dead parrot
to some pinhead with cash in his pocket who walked in wanting to buy a live
parrot. The store owner kept trying to convince him that the dead parrot was
really alive and was just having an afternoon nap.Well, Kent, the dead
parrot is Joe Frazier after Ali 1, and you and Forest remind me of the store
owner. The pinhead with the cash are those still unconvinced about Joe and who
are listening to your excuses. SQUAWK. SQUAWK. SQUAWK.By the way, Kent,
I sincerely hope I have not upset you by mucking around here. I am not taking it
entirely seriously and I hope that you stop doing that. It should be an open
discussion without the tension. It is not personal. You have my best regards. So
does Forest.Steve - yes, I agree about a commission to control boxing.
The current set up is a joke.|
you that the fight should have been stopped early. If I were the referee, I
would have stopped the fight after that devastating uppercut in the first round
( one of the hardest punches ever thrown in a boxing or even wrestling ring). I
was just saying what I think would have happened if the referee hadn't stopped
the fight after the sixth knockdown. Joe Frazier was the opposite of Clifford
(remember the Tyson-Clifford fight ?) he would have kept getting up over and
over again, that kind of warrior can't accept defeat and this would have been
very dangerous for his life. I'm very happy that Frazier survived the Foreman
fight, obviously !|
William !|
you say about Frasier, Howard, you can be too cutting in how you say
it.Steve, I agree that it would be a good time to change the subject
away from Frasier and Ali. Female boxing is a good subject, you suggest. Okay.
Where to start......The best female fight I ever saw was some girl named
Jacqui getting the you-know-what beaten out of her by some good looking doll
named Laila. Their last names are on the tip of my tongue. Oh, that's
right. Frasier and Ali. Oops !|
Foreman didn't have to risk his undefeated record to prove anything---meanwhile,
after the ridiculous beating Frazier took in the first Foreman fight and his
rematch loss to Ali, and the time in between, he DID need to prove himself to
"be a legend---one of the best ever." You don't prove yourself by taking on
light hitting and washed up Jimmy Ellis, who you cruised through when he was
actually good. Steve: Yes, Jimmy Ellis WAS a good fighter---held the title and
was a very good boxer. By 1975 he was riding a winless streak and was
punchless, and Frazier jumped at the chance to fight him in Melbourne. Also, go
back through the posts---I don't think I've EVER mentioned Bonavena and
certainly, I don't keep reminding everyone about him knocking down Frazier
twice. It's a different poster, but you know what, them's the facts! |
|3/18/05 02:36:49 PM|Kent|La Habra, Ca||kentallenent@aol.com||||10|Angelo, you
are right, Foreman didn't have to prove himself after he destroyed highly ranked
Chuvalo and highly regarded prospect Boone Kirkman, putting him in line for a
title shot. I was using an analogy showing that there can be more than one
interpretation as to why a figther didn't fight certain fighters. Foreman was
not avoiding M Foster, Lyle, and Shavers before his title shot. He didn't need
to fight them to get his title shot, same as Frazier didn't need to fight them
to get his title shot later on against Ali. Frazier had earned his title shot by
virtue of beating Jerry Quarry in 1974 after Quarry had beaten Lyle, Shavers,
and M Foster.I was showing that Howard's argument was faulty because if
