was treated like a champ often. I might also add, he came across as a great guy.
Why does all this need to be re-explained? New posters, check the rest of the
site, you might learn something... I was glad to see Cleveland's own Don King
get the boot for not having a permit recently. It's about time boxing's higher
power's, whatever they may be, checked that guy... Brenda, if I had the
credentials, I'd love to see something made on Jerry and the rest of your
family, I've been a fan for years. Maybe Kent or someone can take the lead on
that. I recently wrote ESPN Sportcentury and told them what a good story Jerry
and you guys would make... Angelo, you're right on Lewis's chin, but his skills
would have fit right in in the 70's. I rate him even with Larry Holmes, another
great boxer with some funny performances. A Bowe- Lewis fight, about 1993, could
have been the fight of that decade. Early 1990's also had Tyson, Holyfield,
Mercer, Morrison, others, an underrated group in my opinion, though not as good
as Jerry's era, I agree... Sorry Kookoo, real champ isn't in the NFL, boxing is
a skill sport, usually anyway.|
able to slip Ali's jab and get off combinations starting at the body working to
the head with more punches and faster than anyone Ali ever fought. When Ali laid
on the ropes and covered up ( rope a dope) the strategy was for Spinks to bang
him on the left shoulder taking out Ali's jab later on in the fight. Jerry
was in the first Ali fight and had the tools to beat him the cut that ended the
fight was pure luck for Ali. You don't come back after 3 years and take on the
#1 contender|
!||||10|Fran-Congratulations for your performances in the ring ! I
hope me and you are good friendsbecause ( or since) I don't wanna have my
ass whupped by you.I do believe that Ali's performance against Spinks in
their first fight was a disaster. He fought well in two or three rounds ( for
instance, round 15 is one of the most exciting rounds ever ) but for the rest of
the fight he did nothing ! Nothing but dancing without scoring. In the second
fight Ali' fought a little better but not much better or maybe it was Leon that
wasn't the same guy of the first fight.Differently from most people I
think that Ron Lyle's performance against Ali' was pretty disappointing. Ali'
did nothing but clowning for almost all the fight and Ron was never able of
hurting him ( or to hurt him ). Every time Ali' woke up and got seriousLyle
looked in trouble and Ali' looked the dominator of the fight. Anyway, Ron Lyle
was an excellent fighter and probably would be the undesputed heavyweight
champion today.PS: Evan B., thanks for your concern about me ! Sei
molto gentile. |
think you're a bit off on these comments. Ali gave a great performance in the
second Spinks fight. He was in good shape and while he had no KO power left, he
put on a boxing clinic. Spinks lost just about every round. He was the same
guy as the first fight---it was ALI who was different: In shape, focused,
faster and made Spinks look awkward and amateurish. In their first fight, Ali
scored quite a bit himself, but was constantly beaten to the punch by Spinks. I
still wonder what Sam Solomon had in the little black bottle because Spinks just
didn't seem to get tired no matter how much energy he used! But even as one of
Ali's biggest fans, I disagree with your analysis of the Lyle fight. I don't
think Ali dominated at all. In fact, I think Lyle was fighting well---and I
don't think the fight should have been stopped. Lyle was shaken up, but clearly
able to continue. I think he might have been leading on points when they
