turning away from Frazier before we all cry with boredom. |
|10/12/05 05:08:28 PM|Howard C.|Louisville||howardc@louisville||||10|Kent - this
debate was had months ago. Why bring it up again ? If it was me, Pete
would come out in his monodrome tone, "Why are you talking about Frazier again"
and then Pete would talk about Frazier (again and again and again).By
the way, Kent, I can't accept your reasoning. Tune ups. Tune downs. Smart
management. Cluey money guys. Couldn't fit the fight in. Ellis was in his prime
down under. Marion Conners was a naturally born killer. Joe and Ken were best
buddies. There was more money fighting Stander....... I've heard ALL the
excuses for Joe not fighting certain guys. It doesn't cut it with me. It cuts it
with others. My view is no more superior than yours. But repeating excuses time
and time again won't change my view. And I've given up changing your view. I'm
going to play one of my Carpenters records. Karen Carpenter is the only thing I
like to hear over and over again. |
|10/12/05 09:03:29 PM|Noam|same||same||||10|Kent - I don't know how I was
misleading or leaving out facts by accurately recording Joe's opponents before
he fought Mathis.But okay, I'll pretend about his career, like you do.
Joe never fought Doyle, Connors, Zyglewicz, Daniels, and Stander. It is a
misprint. He actually fought Patterson, Liston, Cooper, Folley, Lyle, Shavers,
Norton, Mac Foster, Jack Johnson, Louis, and Marciano.Yep, Joe even
entered the WBA tournament and whipped the other seven guys. In one day. At the
same time. Blindfolded. He then took Mathis on with one hand tied behind his
back. Sound asleep. Oh, I almost forgot. That fight against Ellis never happened
in Australia. Joe was actually fighting King Kong on steroids. Sorry I got it
wrong.I agree with every one of your arguments, Kent. I was misleading
by saying that Joe didn't enter the WBA tournament and didn't fight Shavers,
Norton, Lyle, et al. I was changing facts saying he fought Stander, Donald Duck,
and Connors. Haven't you and Pete humiliated me enough with your steel trap
minds and bulletproof logic ? Can we now move onto something else ? Please ?|
CALIFORNIA||RONNYRAINS@YAHOO.COM||||10|YU MUGS NEED A REFEREE! Actually this is
for KENT and NOAM, Buster Mathis was undefeated and ranked by RING MAGAZINE #10
when he actually fought Joe Frazier in 1968. 3/68 4/68 5/68 6/68. all had Buster
#10 contender.he made their top ten again ( #6) when he defeated then 4th ranked
George Chuvalo. 4/69 #6 5/69 #6. then he fought #4 Quarry, Mathis was 29-1.
Lost, and rounded out the end of his Ring Magazine top ten tenure 7/69 #7 8/69
#7 9/69 #7 and 10/69 #9. he then dropped out of the ratings and stayed that way
for the rest of his career. so he was in the Ring's World top ten a grand total
of 11 months. take care!|
|10/12/05 10:37:34 PM|Kent|Murrieta, Ca||kentallenent@aol.com||||10|As Jimmy
Dorsey pointed out, Mathis was ranked by Ring Magazine when he fought for the
title but some of the people here have said he wasn't ranked by the WBA or Ring
Magazine in the top ten at all.It is selective information when, as
Jimmy D pointed out, the end of the year rankings for Ring are just what they
were when the year ended, not a comprehensive ranking for a whole
year.The facts are that Mathis was ranked in the top ten several times,
not no times.What is wrong with wanting information to be accurate?|
|10/13/05 05:15:57 AM|Noam|same||same||||10|Kent - the reason Mathis wasn't
selected in the WBA tournament was because he wasn't ranked highly enough. He
wasn't in the Top 8 selected.Do a google search on The Ring Magazine's
annual rankings. Mathis doesn't appear in the Top 10 of any of the annual
rankings. Fact (although you'll say it is misleading). That means that any
appearance in the monthly rankings was brief. Extremely brief. Much briefer
than, say, Lyle, Shavers, Norton, Mac Foster, and all those other legendary
punchers Joe couldn't fit in his less than busy schedule (in which he fought
less often than almost every other heavyweights). Yet he still managed to fit in
a fight with Buster (and Daniels and Stander and Connors and Doyle and Humpty
