liquor-shop and made good money with it. I think he died of cirrosi epatica
(hard to traslate in English). |
very well is Nino Benvenuti. Marvin Hagler is another, I think. I don't know
about Tommaso Hearns. Evander Holyfield can't handle unsuccess and wrongly keeps
fighting.|
still out there. I think you're saying that Carnera had liver problems like
cirrohsis (not sure of the spelling). Perhaps it was because he was drinking his
own merchandize. |
Canada||FYI@yahoo.com||||9|This is an interesting site. I've been looking over
several posts from the past few days and am making my first responses. First
I'll answer David Young. For Your Information: The Chuvalo loss was a bad one
for Quarry. George Chuvalo couldn't box oranges. The guy has little skills. More
like a glorified punching bag. Not only Ali, Frazier, and Foreman but also guys
like skinny Floyd Patterson, Mike Dejon, Edwardo Carletti (who?),lumbering Oscar
Bonavena and many more beat Chuvalo. Just about anyone with any skills. What
made Chuvalo so popular was his ability to take punishment not his boxing
ability. For Jerry Quarry to lose to him was a bad mark on his career. His
loss to Frazier the 2nd time was also bad. Though Frazier (unlike Chuvalo) was a
top heavy he was still on the decline. After the Ali ko loss Quarry's come back
was successfull. He won 7 fights in a row. Some aginst quality boxers.
Frazier on the other hand hardly faught and had a losing 1-2 record over 2
years. Blasted by Foreman and losing to Ali. Had a tough time in beating Bugner.
The momentum was clearly on Quarry's side. Taking on Frazier at this point made
perfect sense. Revenge and a title shot at the winner of Ali-Foreman. Despite
all of this he still got blasted by Frazier and nearly killed in the ring. This
proves that Frazier was just too much for Quarry. He was at a higher level than
Quarry. This fight started Quarry's slow death. Ref and Quarry corner at
fault.A forgotten good win for Quarry was Jack Bodell. Quarry beat
Quarry during his earlier comeback (Quarry had a habit of "comebacks") from his
first Ali loss. For Your Information: Frazier did in fact hurt Chuvalo.
What fight were you watching? Chuvalo wanted that fight to end. Forget the
bravado. All boxers claim they were never "really" hurt during a fight. |
Canada||FYI@yahoo.com||||9|For Your Information: This December will mark the
97th anniv. of Jack Johnson's win over Tommy Burns to become the first Black
Heavyweight. After his win the white establishment in their anger started the
white hope contests. After awhile this white hope belief was forgotten.
Especially since there wouldn't be another Black champion until Joe Louis. The
white hope syndrome was revived after Rocky Marciano retired in 1956. With the
exception of the brief hic up (Inghamer Johansen in 1959) there hasn't been a
white heavy champion. There hasn't been a white american champion since Rocky
himself. Here's the list of top white heavys since Marciano. Henry
Cooper, Jerry Quarry, Boone Kirkman, Joe Bugner, Duane Bobick, Gerry Cooney,
Wladamir and Vitali Klitchko, Oleg Maskeav, Tommy Morrison, Joe Mesi and Andrew
Golata. If there are more besides this list you can add.I believe that
Vitali is the best of the bunch. Or at least could've been without the injury.
Jerry Quarry also tops the list. Some argue that Bugner was better than
Quarry because he did better than Quarry against Ali and Frazier. It is true
that Bugner did better and finished on his feet. The counter argument however is
that Quarry beat boxers that beat Bugner. That includes Jack Bodell and Larry
Middleton. The others will be debated later.|
