guilty of showing him TOO MUCH respect. Do you honestly think he could hang
with an in-prime George Foreman? He might try to avoid the bombs and keep
Foreman away with the jab, but a 1973 Foreman would force him to fight---
something Holyfield couldn't do. And David Tua shouldn't even be in the same
sentence with George Foreman.Foreman would pole-axe Lennox Lewis. If he
didn't have the chin to stand up to Oliver McCall's punch that he didn't see
coming, I guarantee he wouldn't stand up to the barrage of Foreman's punches
that he did see coming. |
than one dimensional when he fought Lewis combination of to old slow and tooo
much weight lifting. He was good back then I agree with you on that. He would
have been good in any era. There were times Lewis looked brilliant but who did
he have in front of him at the time. I don't think he had the gas tank or the
chin. He waited his career for the big fight and now he could have it with
Klitchko and he retires. Who would have won 1988 version of Iron Mike or any
version of Lewis?|
regarding the Eagles. My point is, they can move anyone if they can move the NFL
franchises they have already moved..., I personally liked RomanGabriel, a very
strong Jim-Plunkett-type pocket passer... Some great imput on JQ vs. Today's big
guys. Pooper Gas-man, Jerry would be the equal of James Toney today, probably
better. He was a great small heavy, never knocked out, nearly beat Frazier, had
Ali's respect. Read what Foreman has said of him, he was a Quarry fan. The older
Klitschko has the size power, but Jerry takes a punch better than almost any,
and Jerry is clearly a better boxer, would probably go alot like a match with
Foreman, but Klitschko is not as good as Foreman, prime-prime. Jerry might have
a better chance with Lewis, who could be KO'd, JQ could box too, would beat
McCline or the even less-talented Micheal Grant, JQ beat some very good big
heavies, you might want to reconsider how he would do against today's less-
skilled heavies... Frazier did beat Ali, didn't he? No one today could beat Ali,
rethink this one also... I also have Tyson over Frazier, and Foreman also, but
not Ali. I'm not as high on Holmes as some here, Jerry would give him a great
match, Holmes on cuts about Round 10 or by decision, much like Lewis. JQ would
have about equal chance against both, and would take 2-4 rounds.|
|5/25/04 04:06:26 PM|Kent|La Habra, Ca||kentallenent@aol.com||||10|Fran, I would
have to go with a focused 1988 version of Tyson over Lewis.Angelo, the
point is the unseen punch is more likely to cause the knockout. I could see
Lewis avoiding a lot of a 1973 version of Foreman as Foreman telegraphed a lot
of his punches. Also, Lewis himself hit hard and he would have to tag Foreman
hard early in the fight to gain respect, as Ali and Lyle did, to have a chance
at victory. You are right, if Lewis fell to a McCall punch, than he would
have a hard time surviving the early Foreman onslaught. Notice I said maybe
Lewis could avoid Foreman's bombs, not that he could do so for sure. Two
other big punchers that Lewis avoided their power, Tommy Morrison, by boxing
well from a distance and Razor Ruddock, by Lewis scoring an early
knockout.ISN'T IT NICE HOW WE CAN DISAGREE ON A TOPIC OR TOPICS AND NOT
RESORT TO INSULTS? EVEN G MAN IS CATCHING ON HOW THINGS SHOULD BE ON THIS
BOARD.|
know that Lewis never fought Riddick Bowe, and now people are rewriting the
history, implying that Bowe ducked Lewis. I live in the DC area. Bowe fought
out of a Maryland suburb of DC and was managed by Rock Neuman, a DC guy.
Believe me when I tell you, the local coverage was good, and maybe slanted, but
Bowe did not duck Lewis. Both camps were looking for the right money to make
this fight. When Bowe threw one of the belts in the garbage (literally, threw
the belt in a garbage can), Lewis picked it out (NOT literally!). Back then, if
these two fought, I think Bowe would have won. I think Bowe knows he would have
