60.1 The PRESIDENT:
Yes I understand the amendment is also supported by Ecuador. Do I see any other support? Yes, it is
supported. Lithuania, Guatemala, Dominican Republic, Honduras. And now we have it in writing, so everybody
can understand the proposal. Are there any other remarks?
60.2 The resolution proposed by the Executive Board in document 30 C/6, as amended by El Salvador, is
adopted.
60.3 Ladies and gentlemen, we are coming to the end of this session, the words of peace have been on all our
lips since the beginning of this meeting and I hope it will not be only words because words are easily spoken.
What better way to end than with words of peace put to music, and who better than the celebrated singer from
Gabon, Angèle ASSELE, appointed “UNESCO Artist for Peace” last Wednesday, to sing for us. Madame Assele
was among the artists who performed at the ceremony held in Libreville on 11 September to mark Gabon’s
adherence to the “Manifesto 2000 for a Culture of Peace and Non-Violence”. And today she is with us to sing her
songs of peace and will be joined on the stage by members of the UNESCO children’s club. It is a nice way to
end our meeting. Ladies and gentlemen, let us welcome UNESCO’s Artist for Peace, Angèle Assele.
(The Conference hears a musical performance)
60.4 Ladies and gentlemen, we shall close this meeting with this musical performance and I think it was a
good idea because we have had music, we have had words of peace, and we have had representatives of the
future on the stage. And that is important. Ladies and gentlemen, I thank you for staying with us here on a
Saturday afternoon, and I wish you a nice weekend. We shall meet again in plenary on Monday morning at
10 a.m. for the investiture of the Director-General. The meeting is adjourned.
