Dear Mr Director-<strong>General</strong>,<br />

Please accept my most sincere congratulations on the occasion of your appointment as Director-<strong>General</strong><br />

of <strong>UNESCO</strong>. As a new century dawns, you have become the head of the Organization which is destined to<br />

become one of the leading agencies in the United Nations system, capable of strengthening the humanitarian<br />

aspects of peace and the principle of cooperation.<br />

I am convinced that your broad diplomatic experience will help you to manage the Organization<br />

skilfully and effectively.<br />

I also hope that in your person Ukraine will find a real friend and advocate of greater cooperation<br />

between <strong>UNESCO</strong> and our State.<br />

I wish you, dear Director-<strong>General</strong>, every success in these responsible activities, and avail myself of this<br />

opportunity to invite you to visit Ukraine at any time convenient to you.<br />
