Dear Mr Director-General,
Please accept my most sincere congratulations on the occasion of your appointment as Director-General
of UNESCO. As a new century dawns, you have become the head of the Organization which is destined to
become one of the leading agencies in the United Nations system, capable of strengthening the humanitarian
aspects of peace and the principle of cooperation.
I am convinced that your broad diplomatic experience will help you to manage the Organization
skilfully and effectively.
I also hope that in your person Ukraine will find a real friend and advocate of greater cooperation
between UNESCO and our State.
I wish you, dear Director-General, every success in these responsible activities, and avail myself of this
opportunity to invite you to visit Ukraine at any time convenient to you.
