35.1 The PRESIDENT:
I understand Sir. But it is necessary to include the last subparagraph of the draft resolution in
paragraph 33 of the report, which “invites the Director-General to submit to the Executive Board at its 159th
session concrete proposals for an interdisciplinary Arabia Plan programme to be carried out during 2000-2001”.
35.2 Can we now consider the whole document in its entirety, with these two amendments that I have
mentioned repeatedly? Can we reach a consensus on the amendment of Benin and the amendment of the United
Republic of Tanzania? Can we now consider that the plenary takes note of the report of Commission IV and
approves the draft resolutions as amended that are proposed therein? It is so decided.
36. THE PRESIDENT:
Now ladies and gentlemen, you also have before you document 30 C/INF.39, which contains the
conclusions of the Round Table of Ministers of Culture on Culture and Creativity in a Globalized World, held on
2 November. The conclusions in the document before you focus more specifically on the theme of cultural
diversity in a globalized world. Are there any comments? We only need to take note of the document, which is
for information. I give the floor to the representative of Turkey.
37. Mr FIRAT (Turkey):
Thank you Madam President. We agree with document 30 C/INF.39 concerning the Round Table of
Ministers of Culture, which was held on 2 November. The Turkish Minister of Culture also participated in this
Round Table which was, I believe, attended by more than 50 Ministers or Vice-Ministers. In his statement to the
Round Table, the Turkish Minister of Culture issued an invitation to the Minister of Culture of Member States of
UNESCO to hold a meeting in Turkey in the year 2001. He invited the General Conference to take note of this
invitation on the part of Turkey. As this was not on the agenda of Commission IV, or covered by document
30 C/INF.39, which only gives the conclusions on this theme, I would like to request that this proposal by the
Turkish Minister of Culture to hold an international ministerial conference on culture in Turkey in the year 2001
be reflected in the verbatim records of this Conference. The subject and practical details of such a conference
will, of course, be decided in consultation with UNESCO’s appropriate organs and authorities. Thank you very
much.
(Mme Karvelis, Lituanie, prend la présidence)
