Breast cancer is the second leading cause of death in women and a major public
health issue in the world. Mammograms are the traditional tests to diagnose
breast cancer in early stages, however, it is often related to false-negative
results, decreasing the chances of women`s survival. In this work, we developed
luminescent nanoparticles (LNPs) capped with a natural polymer and
functionalized to increase their biodistribution properties in vivo and to
enhance their specificity for breast cancer cells. Luminescent nanocrystals were
synthesized via the sol-gel method at a low temperature
Keywords: luminescent nanoparticles, biocompatible polysaccharide, breast cancer
cells
