TiO 2 films grown on glass by the sol-gel/immersion method and with 10
immersions were used to deposit SnS 2 by means of a precipitation reaction in
order to obtain the composite film SnS 2 /TiO 2 and test it as photocatalyst. The
composite films were characterized by the optical absorption and micro-Raman
techniques. The change of slope in the characteristic region of each material and
the phonons corresponding to each compound confirmed the formation of the
composite. The photocatalytic effect of the TiO 2 , SnS 2 and SnS 2 /TiO 2 films on 4-
chloro-2-nitrophenol (4C2NP) using visible light in aqueous medium was
studied. During the photo-degradation process of the 4C2NP the
hydroxyhydroquinone (HHQ) was obtained. From the absorbance vs wavelength
spectra for different illumination times of 4C2NP in contact with TiO 2 , SnS 2 and
SnS 2 /TiO 2 films was observed that the higher formation of HHQ was generated
with the composite and under visible light.
