In this study, was development a nanocomposite based on epoxy resin and
graphene oxide (epoxy/GO) with potential action as a protective coating against
corrosion. The GO was synthesized by the Hummers method and characterized
by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and X-ray diffraction analysis
(XRD). Then, the epoxy/GO nanocomposite was prepared by mechanical
dispersion and ultrasound at different proportions of GO. The coatings were
applied on carbon steel metallic substrates and characterized by scanning
electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray
diffraction analysis (XRD) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The corrosion
protective effect was evaluated by means of electrochemical impedance
spectroscopy (EIS). The results indicated that the formulation showed the best
physicochemical properties and performance against corrosion.
