The synthesis and characterization of mixed copper, zinc and aluminium oxides
hydrotalcite-like compounds is presented. The samples were prepared with
atomic ratio Cu 2+ /Zn 2+ = 1 and varying the ratio M(II)/M(III) of 2, 3 and 4; The dry
and calcined materials were characterized through the techniques DRX, EDX,
SEM, TEM, FTIR, TGA and DSC. The presence of particles with hexagonal
morphology was observed, forming stacked plates of laminar structure of the
hydrotalcite-type compounds as well as the presence of carbonate ions and
nitrates in the interlaminar region. The presence of the Cu(OH) 2 phase was
observed when ratio M(II)/M(III) increase, due to the Jahn-Teller effect. On the
other hand, in the mixture of oxides the presence of CuO nanocrystals was
observed in the sample of molar ratio M(II)/M (III)=4. And using the TEM
technique, it was observed that as the ratio M(II)/M (III) decreases, the pore
density increases in the hexagonal particles, which is attributed to the higher
concentration of aluminum and consequently to a greater amount of
carbonates and Anions that initially compensate the charges of the interlaminar
region than leave the structure during the calcination stage, generating said
porosity.
