The present study investigates the production of nano-scale elemental
amorphous boron powder by Chemical Vapour Deposition (CVD) technique.
Nano-scale amorphous boron synthesized by the gas phase reduction of BCl3/H2
molar ratio of 1/8 at 700áµÂÂ’C in an originally designed reactor. Ar was used as
carrier and diluting gas. Nano-scale amorphous boron powders with a minimum
purity of 99.9 % obtained after experiment at 700áµÂÂ’C .
Thermodynamical interpretations of BCl3-H2 system utilized Fact-Sage TM 6.2
simulation program.
Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM); Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM);
Particle Size Distribution (PSD) analyses were utilized for the caharacterization
of the final product. Density of the final product was measured by using a gas
pycnometer. The pruties of final products were determined by titration method
after lime fusion.
Keywords: amorphous boron powder, gas-phase, hot surface CVD
