In this work, the application of a Diamond-Like Carbon coating (DLC) on an
aluminum alloy 6061-T6 was carried out. This coating was deposited by the
electrodeposition technique, using a mixture composed of citric acid (C6H8O7),
tartaric acid(C4H6O6) and sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3) added in amounts of
0.25, 0.5, 0.75 and 1 g in a solution of acetic acid 5% CH3COOH, using a graphite
electrode and a potential difference of 15 V at an application time of 30 minutes.
To evaluate the corrosion resistance of the coated aluminum alloy,
electrochemical tests were performed on a 3.5% NaCl solution. The
characterization of the samples was carried out by scanning electron
microscopy in order to correlate the corrosion resistance with the
microstructural characteristics of the coating. The results obtained the
electrochemical tests carried out on the electrodeposited films showed that the
corrosion resistance is related to the quantity of the mixture C6H8O7 + C4H6O6
+ NaHCO3 added to the solution.
