The addition of nanoparticles in coatings with control of the shape and size it
could enhance the properties. For this reason, is important the study of the
effect of the nanoparticles produces in a polymer matrix such as the barrier
effect. We were synthesized SiO 2 nanoparticles and it were added in different
amounts into the polymethyl methacrylate matrix to develop a coating that were
impregned on stainless steel 304 sheets by dipping method. The
physicochemical characterization helped to find the size and morphology. We
functionalized SiO 2 nanoparticles with aptes(3-aminopropyl) triethoxysilane to
enhance the mix between the matrix of polymer and SiO2 nanoparticles. The
electrochemistry tests like electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and
polarization curves used were a valuable tool for this study. The EIS showed
resistance values in the order of megaohms were obtained and that suggests
that there is an improvement in the polymer.
