ZrO 2 -doped titanium nanocomposites were successfully prepared by sol-gel
method and characterized by various measurement techniques. The synthesis
of TiO 2 with doped ZrO 2 at different %w (1, 3 & 5) was carried out in presence of
different pH; thus, different physicochemical properties and catalytic activities
were observed. The crystalline structure of TiO 2 -ZrO 2 was confirmed by X-ray
diffraction analysis and the morphologies of all samples was observed by SEM
and TEM microscopies furthermore, textural properties of photocatalysts were
characterized via Brunauer, Emmett, and Teller method (BET), Xray
photoelectron spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectra and UV–Vis
spectrophotometry analyses. Differences in catalytic activity were found in ZrO 2 -
doped titanium nanocomposites compared versus TiO 2 and ZrO 2 as
photocatalysts, these differences were attributed to stronger absorption in the
visible light region, the specific surface area, smaller crystal sizes and more
surface OH groups, which resulted in a lower band gap energy.
