The results obtained from the characterization of the foams helped us
determine which foam has the best qualities for its use as a hydroponic
substrate, and the LCA methodology helped us identify which foam had the
most significant potential environmental impacts. The reaction efficiencies were
variable, however the foams with dye (D and F) obtained a higher efficiency
compared to the foams of the same concentrations without dye (A, C), the
foaming time increase at higher concentration of polyols (C> B> A), however the
reaction efficiency and density decrease.
Acknowledgment:
I would like to express my deep gratitude to my research supervisors, for their
patient guidance, enthusiastic encouragement and useful critiques of this
research
work.
I would also like to thank the institutions that have helped in the development
of the project, Universidad Autónoma del Estado de Morelos-Facultad de
Ciencias Químicas e Ingeniería, Consejo Nacional de Ciencia Y Tecnología,
Centro de Investigaciones Energéticas, Medio Ambientales y Tecnológicas and
Instituto de Investigaciones en Materiales-Universidad Nacional Autónoma de
México.
Finally, I wish to thank my parents for their support and encouragement
throughout my Master degree.
