TRANSLATIONAL RESEARCH AS A STRATEGY FOR TECHNOLOGY
TRANSFER IN MEXICO
The importance of technology transfer varies among industrial sectors; in health
biotechnology, the companies invest in R & D and rely on universities,
pharmaceutical industry and National Health Systems. In Mexico, an analysis of
the transfer of health biotechnology showed that, the transfer is limited by the
stagnation of projects in their initial stages of development (Medina-Molotla,
2017). In this sense, translational research has become a strategy of health
companies and institutions in developed countries to accelerate the transfer of
research results obtained in the basic science laboratory. Conducting
translational research requires bi-directional communication between scientists
(clinical and basic), the convergence of knowledge (transdisciplinary and
approaching solutions on a common health problem), a solid regulatory
framework and an enabling environment (incentives and financing) for
transferring the project. This work presents an example of the first advances in
translational research carried out in our country, which show the close
collaboration between the university and a public health research center, and
the results of the transfer of technology involved in translational research.
