The growing demand for economical and sustainable solutions to reduce the
environmental impact due to the consumption of natural resources and the
production of residues results in the search for economic alternatives, mainly
for the manufacture of new materials using these tailings. Based on this
scenario, this study aimed to evaluate the ash residues of rice husk and
aluminum anodizing sludge, in order to obtain geopolymers. The variables
studied were the mass percentages of CCA, sludge and the solution of sodium
silicate and sodium hydroxide. The residues were characterized by moisture
determination, chemical and mineralogical analysis, infrared spectrometry and
particle size distribution. In addition the collected CCAs were analyzed thermally.
After characterization, the residues were prepared by drying, milling /
disintegrating and sieving. The production of the geopolymers was done by the
physical mixing of the components according to a statistical design of mixtures
and soon after, they were taken to a stove at 40 ° C for 28 days. After this period,
the four geopolymer compositions were characterized. The results for apparent
density, tensile strength for diametral compression and rupture deformation
were similar to those found in other literature. Statistical analysis of the results
showed that the aluminum sludge is the factor that contributes most to
apparent density, diametral retraction, tensile strength and rupture
deformation. The SS + NaOH solution showed that the higher its percentage,
lower the bulk density, retraction and deformation. In the FTIR analysis, the Si-
O-T bands, characteristic bonds of geopolymers, were identified. After the
analysis of the results, it was verified that it is possible to use CCA and anodizing
sludge for the manufacture of geopolymers.
