SBA-15 has been synthesized via sol-gel under acidic conditions using
hydrochloric acid with different molarity (0.5M, 0.6M, 0.7M, 0.8M, 1.0M and
2.0M), the amphiphilic triblock copolymer pluronic P-123 as organic structure
directing agent and tetraethoxysilane (TEOS) as silica precursor. The synthesized
SBA-15 samples have been characterized by small-angle X-ray diffraction (XRD),
Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM),
high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) and N2
physisorption analysis. The small-angle XRD patterns for all samples prepared
with different molar concentration of HCl shows three well-resolved peaks that
are indexable as (100), (110) and (200) reflections associated with p6mm
hexagonal symmetry confirming the fact that: if the pH of the hydrochloric acid
approximately equal to 1 is maintained, the structure of SBA-15 formed; on the
other hand, SEM analysis revealed that SBA-15 samples having a rope-like
morphology characteristic of mesoporous silica materials.
