EFFECT OF THE APPLICATION OF A FILM OF 3-GLYCIDOXYPROPYL<br />

TRIMETHOXYSILANE IN A NANOCOMPOSITE COATING<br />

In the present study, a film of silane (3-glycidoxypropyl trimethoxysilane) was<br />

applied as pretreatment in nanocomposite coatings prepared with epoxy resin<br />

DER 331 and montmorillonite modified with organic groups (MMT). The epoxy-<br />

MMT coatings were prepared at different proportions of 0, 0.5, 1, 3 and 5%<br />

weight of MMT. The coatings were applied on carbon steel substrates and cured<br />

at 120 ° C for two hours, the carbon steel substrates were previously treated.<br />

The coatings were characterized using physical techniques such as Scanning<br />

Electron Microscopy, Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy,<br />

Thermogravimetric Analysis and X-Ray Diffraction. Electrochemical impedance<br />

spectroscopy (EIS) was used to evaluate the anticorrosive performance of the<br />

coatings. The results of the characterization of the coatings and the<br />

electrochemical evaluation by EIS showed the formulation with the best<br />

anticorrosive behavior in a 5% by weight NaCl solution.<br />
