Graphitic carbon nitride (g-C 3 N 4 ) have attracted tremendous interest especially
among catalysis science community due to its extraordinary properties, for
example, it is most stable allotrope carbon nitride due to strong covalent bonds
between carbon and nitrogen hence providing highest stability in ambient
conditions, high surface area due to 2D stacked by conjugated planes analogous
to graphite, environmental friendly, low cost, etc. Here we report, simple
synthesis of magnetic Ni decorated onto g-C 3 N 4 nanosheets composite and its
properties via various characterization techniques. Bulk g-C 3 N 4 , which was
prepared by polycondensation of melamine and was delaminated by thermal
exfoliation to obtain nanosheets. In the subsequent step, reducing nickel nitrate
using NaBH 4 by simply grinding together with exfoliated g-C 3 N 4 was carried to
prepare the composite which further subjected to thermal treatment in argón
flow. X-ray diffraction, Scanning Electron Microscopy, BET analysis, HRTEM and
XPS were employed to understand the developed composite material. The
synthesized Ni@g-C 3 N 4 shows good catalytic performance towards reduction of
4-nitrophenol to 4-aminophenol. The results showed that catalytic property of
Ni@g-C 3 N 4 was higher when compared with Ni and g-C 3 N 4 alone. In addition this
composites shows good seperation ability and reusability.
