CREATION OF AN INNOVATION CENTER FOR CIUDAD JUÁREZ
BASED ON AN INDUSTRIAL ACADEMIC LINK STRATEGY
Ramon Mario Lopez Avila 1
1 Universidad Autónoma de Ciudad Juárez, Administration, Mexico.
In Ciudad Juarez Mexico there are 459 maquila plants, of which 411 are
manufacturing plants. The SCIAN 2007 is divided into 20 sectors of activity at the
most general level, 94 sub-sectors, 304 branches, 617 sub-branches and, at its
most detailed level, 1,049 activity classes. [1]. Out of this number of
maquiladoras there are 41 sub-branches in the City, including the automotive
and medical sub-sector, which use the use of molds and dies within their
procedures. Based on this need, the Center for Innovation in molds and dies
was implemented based on the link between the academy and the productive
sector and with the support of the federal government (PROSOFT). The CIMT is
focused to be self-financing and not generate a cost as commonly generated by
the Innovation Centers in the country (Mexico). This project was defined as a
consortium of the industrial with the academy generating a direct link between
what is needed and what can be developed and at the same time offering
services demanded by the industry itself. The above points strengthen the
formation of specialized human capital. The process of linking the industry with
the academy will be detailed in the presentation.
