ULTRASONIC SPRAY DEPOSITION AS A NEW ROUTE TO<br />

LUMINESCENT MOF SYNTHESIS<br />

The deposition of high quality MOF films is still challenging but offers potential<br />

applications in gas storage, catalysis, sensing, lighting and solar energy<br />

harvesting. This work reports a simple, fast and inexpensive method for the<br />

synthesis of crystalline luminescent terbium MOF films Tb(BDC) (BDC = 1,4-<br />

benzenedicarboxylate) using ultrasonic spray deposition on top of glass and<br />

quartz substrates. The films were characterized by x-ray diffraction (XRD),<br />

scanning electron microscopy (SEM), profilometry, infrared (IR), UV-Vis and<br />

luminescence spectroscopies. The impact of the time of deposition and<br />

temperature on the structural, morphological and luminescence properties<br />

were analyzed. As expected, the emission spectra present characteristic<br />

emission bands of the terbium luminescence for all the films. The studies<br />

demonstrate that this film synthesis method can be extensive to other MOF<br />

structures.<br />
