MATERIAL SELECTION TO IMPROVE THE THERMAL EFFICIENCY OF<br />

A CLEAN BIOMASS COOKSTOVE.<br />

In this work we explore the influence of the materials in order to improve the<br />

thermal efficiency of a bio mass cookstove. A numerical methodology is<br />

implemented to solve the heat transfer throughout the cook stove’s materials.<br />

The finite element software, COMSOL Multiphysics, was used to solve the heat<br />

transfer equations. The thermal efficiency is calculated as a function of the<br />

geometric parameters and the thermal conductivity. The environmental impact<br />

of the materials required to build a cookstove is evaluated using a life cycle<br />

assessment methodology.<br />
