HYDROGEN PRODUCTION WITH A MONOPOLAR ELECTROLIZER<br />

USING A DIFERENT DIAPHRAGM<br />

In this Project present the construction, design and evaluation of a mono polar<br />

alkaline electrolyser using a concrete diaphragm is announced. There are<br />

electrolysers that separate the hydrogen and oxygen gases, although at a high<br />

cost, what is intended when using the concrete diaphragm is to reduce<br />

manufacturing costs as well as being easily accessible to the general population.<br />

In the construction of the electrolyser, 6 20 gauge 304 stainless steel plates were<br />

used, with concrete diaphragms and 1/8 neoprene plates. The stainless steel<br />

presents resistance to corrosion, the dimensions of the steel plates are 15x15<br />

centimeters, the diaphragm.<br />

Within the obtained results, an efficiency of 50% in the transformation of energy<br />

was obtained, a hydrogen production of 300 milliliters per minute with a<br />

concentration of 0.1 molar using potassium hydroxide as electrolyte with a<br />

plate-to-plate spacing of 3.1 millimeters.<br />
