Halide perovskites have immensely gained attraction for their remarkable
optoelectronic properties derived their distinguishing chemical, structural and
electronic features, triggered by methyl ammonium lead halide (CH3NH3PbI3)
thin films, an outstanding photovoltaic material due to their ground breaking
device performance greater than 20%. In organic–inorganic hybrid lead-based
perovskites the instability due to the organic cation and toxicity due to Pb have
been a concern. In the present work, we report synthesis of inorganic lead-free
perovskite (Cs2Sn(IxCl6-x) thin films via spray deposition method. At the
optimized spray conditions of carrier gas pressure and flow rate, the thin films
formed at different Cs.Sn.Cl:I precursor solution concentrations and substrate
temperatures were analyzed. X-ray diffraction patterns for the films showed that
the films possessed orthorhombic crystal structure. The compact and uniform
morphology of the samples were revealed by the scanning electron
micrographs. The elemental composition and their chemical states were
determined using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Optical properties of
perovskite thin films were varied by changing the I/Cl ratio in the precursor
solution. The results obtained have been demonstrated that the spray
deposition is an adaptable and reproducible method to synthesize stable
inorganic lead-free perovskites.
