The field of additive manufacturing is experiencing an immerse expansion
nowadays and thus lots of effort is paid to this field of technology and materials.
An important issue is build direction dependent material properties in relation
to deposition process. There are published many studies dealing with
microstructure and mechanical properties anisotropy investigations for
material produced by additive manufacturing (AM), but not so many are
addressing thermo-physical properties. The current paper is dealing with the
investigation of thermo-physical properties directional dependence in relation
to deposition process. The material investigated in this work is tool steel
produced by Selective Laser Melting process (SLM). Dilatometry, calorimetric
and thermal conductivity measurements are presented here accompanied by
metallographic investigation of the microstructure in in different build related
directions.
Keywords: Additive manufacturing, tool steel, anisotropy
