Multi-modality cancer therapy involving more than one type of treatments can
enhance cancer treatment by killing cancer cells that may have different
susceptibility toward different treatment. This project is to develop a new
method for combined chemo-, photothermal and radiation therapy of cancer
based on poly dopamine nanoparticles (PDA-NPs) platform. This type of
nanoparticles serves not only as a photothermal agent with strong near infrared
absorbance and high energy conversion efficiency, but also as a carrier to deliver
cisplatin by interaction between cisplatin and catechol groups on PDA-NPs.
Furthermore platinum atom with large X-ray cross section has also been used
to enhance radiation therapy. A remarkable synergistic therapeutic effect has
been achieved compared with respective single treatment, and suggest that
PDA-NPs nanoplatform can be used to enhance cancer treatment.
Keywords: nanoparticles, combine threpy, anti-cancer
