ANALYSIS OF COMPACTNESS IN MORTAR BASE CEMENT,<br />

MUCILAGE OF NOPAL AS SUBSTITUTE OF FLUID MIXING<br />

When the mortars have high porosity also contain high permeability 1 . Intends<br />

to compare some parameters as: Capillary absorption coefficient (k), Capillary<br />

absorption (S), Resistance to water penetration (m) and (Ô•e) Effective porosity<br />

in mortar base cement, using "mucilage of cactus opuntia (prickly pear)" as<br />

kneading liquid. With these parameters will determine the ability of mortars to<br />

allow the introduction of water or other agents 2 . The mortars were developed:<br />

Control, MN 1:2, MN 1:3. Control is the witness, using a w/b ratio: 0.68, without<br />

thinning; MN is mucilage of nopal, the first was obtained by cooking 1 kg of<br />

cactus and 2 L of water, the second was 1 kg of cactus and 3 L of water, was<br />

thinning of 1% and 0.3% in each mucilage respectively. Bank arena of "Joyitas",<br />

located 15 km to the Northwest of the city of Morelia was used in three mortars,<br />

used cement portland composite and with resistance to sulfates (CPC-30R RS).<br />

Slipped prismatic specimens 3 , 5 cm of edge to the ages of 90 and 180 days.<br />

Materials with porosity less than 10% are of good quality and compactness,<br />

porosity between 10% and 15% are of moderate quality, and if you have porosity<br />

over 15% indicates that it is an inadequate durability material 4 . According to the<br />

classification above, at the age of 90 days, were presented as materials of good<br />

quality, but 180 days mortar MN 1:2 was as material of moderate quality.<br />

Mixtures Control and MN 1:3 had very similar values in the two ages of test.<br />
