Shot-peening is a method widely used in industrial practice to improve the
mechanical properties of engineering components such as: increased fatigue
resistance, contact fatigue, resistance to fatigue by corrosion and stress. The
objective of the research was to determine the effect of shot-peening on the
improvement of the bordered layer of AISI 8620 steel. First, the characterization
of the surface of the substrate exposed to the box boring treatment is studied.
The formation of hard layers type Fe 2 B were obtained in a temperature range of
1173, 1227 and 1273 K with exposure times of 6, 7 and 8 h. As a result we have
the evaluation of the growth kinetics of the Fe 2 B layers bordered on the AISI
8620 surface by X-ray diffraction (XRD and Dispersion Energy Spectroscopy
(EDS), hardness measurements, residual stress measurements, fatigue by
rotating flexion, likewise, the adhesion of the layers is evaluated qualitatively by
the Rockwell C. technique.
