NANOPARTICLES FOR BIOMEDICAL APPLICATIONS

The luminescence nanoparticles (NPs) have gain great interest due to the wide
range of applications in biomedicine, this applications may vary biolabels for
cancer cell detection to fluorescence imaging and drug delivery. The imaging of
cells is very important because the current use of organic dyes to stain the cells
is restricted to a limited time, and the nanoparticles luminescence does not fade
in their intensity. In this study, the functionalization of luminescence
nanoparticles was made by the APTES technique to obtain amino groups to
further attach them with folic acid ligands (FA). The FA on the NPs can bind to
the folic acid receptors (FR) over-expressed on certain types of cancer cells. This
is an important novelty because we can achieve the internalization of
nanoparticles within cancerous cells with specific ligands, which allows us to
have an advance in the detection of cancer.
