ABSTRACT
MATERIALS FOR THE ENERGY SECTOR
The innovation process to develop new materials within the energy sector and
bring these to market, can take at least 10 to 20 years and results very costly.
Accelerating and improving this process through international collaboration in
research and development (R&D) could result in major breakthroughs for the
energy sector.
In this sense, Mexico is part of the international Mission Innovation initiative,
which aims to “double between 2015 and 2020 public investment in research and
technological development of clean energy and encourage the private sector.”
As part of this initiative, we work on seven Innovation Challenges, where Mexico
leads the “Advanced Discovery of Energy Materials”; which has as an objective
to develop a Material Acceleration Platform that allows discovering new, high
performance and low-cost materials.
This initiative seeks to significantly reduce the cost and improve the quality,
generation, transmission, distribution and use of energy technologies.
The work done under this Challenge will be directed to the development of a
fully integrated end-to-end Material Acceleration Platform that will accelerate the
discovery of materials throughout the entire process, from low to high technology
readiness levels. The focus will be on cutting-edge R&D technologies with
a long-term vision towards 2030 and beyond that will lead to automated and
autonomous MAPs.
This proposal will benefit all the stages of the innovation process of new clean
energy materials and take advantage of the international advances of individual
activities.
