The environmental problems generated by the fossil fuels as well as the
decrease in their reserves have created necessity to look for renewable, clean
and low-cost energy sources. Solar energy meets the above-mentioned
characteristics and within the various forms it has for direct conversion is
artificial photosynthesis, whose main objective is the production of organic
fuels, however it is limited, to a large extent, by the reaction of oxidation of water
which provides the protons and electrons for the obtaining of said compounds.
The search for materials that allow this reaction to be carried out adequately
represents an important challenge. In the present work shows the structural
characterization of the nanostructured electrodes of TiO2 with
photoelectrodeposited quantum dots (QDs) of cobalt oxide (Co3O4) as well as
their evaluation as photocatalysts in the reaction of oxidation of water, in
addition to modify the parameters that influence the photocurrent response of
said electrodes.
