Semiconductors nanocrystals have emerged as an alternative for fluorescence
proteins or organic dyes in biological applications. In comparison with organic
dyes and fluorescent proteins, these quantum-confined nanoparticles are
brighter, more stable against photobleaching and can be excited for multicolor
emission with a single source. It is important that the nanoparticles remain
suitably dispersed, preferably, in an aqueous environment for any application.
The Quantum Dots of different sizes were synthesized and encapsulated in
liposomes prepared phospholipids. The optical properties of obtained hybrids
before and after encapsulation were evaluated by photoluminescence, Raman
spectroscopy, and X-Ray Diffraction. The results of optical properties
modification were discussed. The new hybrids are very promising in theranostic
liposomes application, which combining the therapy (by enclosing of the drugs)
and diagnostics (by quantum dots encapsulation).
