Due to the constant demand of petroleum plastics, but also to the
environmental impact that these produce. The following research developed
and characterized thermoplastic starch (TPS), the thermoplastic starch was
made with cornstarch and was plasticized with glycerol in a ratio acorrding to an
experimental desing, in addition to containing a citric acid concentration[1.0% w
/ w] as a potentiating plasticizer, the material was mixed with Polylactic Acid
[PLA] according to the experiment design to study the effect of this biopolymer
on TPS formulations. This material was obtained by extrusion, the equipment
used was a single screw extruder (CICATA - IPN, México CDMX) the extrusion
temperature and the spindle speed were variables that are presented in the
experiment design. The samples were characterized by different techniques:
tensile test, differential scanning calorimetry, SEM, X-ray diffraction and FTIR.
