The study presents the results obtained reciprocating sliding wear tests realized
on high velocity oxy fuel-HVOF thermal sprayed cermet (WC-Co) coatings. This
coatings were reinforced with 0.1 and 0.3% of carbon nano-fibers-CNF, which
showed less material loss at 5 and 8 N wear testing loads. Also, the friction
coefficient showed a tendency to decreases gradually, after 1 h of test. Wear
tracks of reinforced coatings showed less cracking at both loads. Fracture
toughness was also influenced in relation to CNF content; higher values of this
mechanical property were obtained in 0.3% CNF coatings
Keywords: CNF, wear, fracture toughness
