OZONIZATION OF EMU OIL FOR THERAPEUTIC PURPOSES AND
ITS IN VIVO ANTI-INFLAMMATORY EVALUATION AND AS A
SUPPLEMENT FOR THE TREATMENT OF ALZHEIMERS DISEASE

Alzheimers disease (AD) is a leading cause of dementia in the aging population.
This neurodegenerative disorder is characterized by the presence of plaques
composed of amyloid (Ab) peptides and neurofibrillary tangles containing
phosphorylated tau; however, neurodegeneration in AD probably starts with
damage to the synaptic terminal. In addition to the neurodegenerative
characteristics of AD, the pathological process in this disorder is accompanied
by significant alterations in adult neurogenesis in the hippocampus.
Emu oil is a valuable resource for the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industry, due
to its particular properties related to effects on health and therapeutic benefits.
In this work, the Ozonation of Emu oil will be studied, varying the degree of
ozonation under different experimental conditions. Characterize crude and
ozonized oil by spectroscopic techniques (FTIR, H1 and C13 NMR). Characterize
the crude and ozonized oil by physicochemical tests (viscosity, density, TU and
melting point). Evaluate the effect of crude and ozonated Emu oil by animal
models.
