We report the preparation of ZnO at different concentrations of pH 8, 10 and 12
by microwave-assisted synthesis for the evaluation of their photocatalytic
activity. To prove this successfully synthesized procedure, the ZnO at different
concentrations of pH were characterized using X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Raman
Spectroscopy, Ultraviolet-Visible (UV-vis) and Scanning Electron Microscopy
(SEM). The photocatalytic results showed that ZnO with pH 12 have the highest
photocatalytic activity under ultraviolet light, because their photocatalytic
properties increased greatly assisting in the separation of electrons and holes
due to the change of morphology that occurred when increasing the
concentration of pH. The photocatalytic activity was studied in the
photodegradation efficiency of methylene blue as a dye pollutant. Thus, ZnO at
pH 12 was found useful for the treatment of waste water.
