Thermal stability and mechanical behavior of a Firth-Vickers 535 (12Cr–Mo–
VNbWCo) steel have been studied. Nanoindentation was used to evaluate
mechanical properties and differential scanning calorimetry and dilatometry to
understand the thermal stability. In these studies was found that austenitic
transformation is strongly dependent on the heating rate during continuous
heating. The (M s ), (Ac 1 ) and (Ac 3 ) temperatures were determined and compared.
The results of nanoindentation can be correlated with the microstructural
condition during different tempering conditions.
Keywords: martensite, nanoindentation, thermal stability
