Langmuir-Blodgett technique (LB)[i] is a method to form a monolayer on a
water-air interface (Langmuir film) and, then, transfer it to a solid substrate
(Langmuir Blodegtt film). The main advantages of LB technique are: the
molecular arrangement of the film is well defined and the film has a thickness
of one molecule. It has been demonstrated that LB films can be incorporated
successfully in several nanotechnology applications such as optoelectronic
devices,[ii] for example organic light-emitting diode[iii] (OLED) and organic
photovoltaic cells.[iv]
In this work, we report the synthesis and formation of Langmiur and Langmuir-
Blodgett films of a novel 4,4-(4,4,9,9-tetrakis(4-hexylphenyl)-4,9-dihydro-sindaceno[1,2-b:5,6-b]dithiophene-2,7-diyl)bis(N,N-diphenylaniline)
(IDT-DPA)
indacene derivative. Due to the properties of this compounds, we are exploring
their potential applicability in organic solar cells. Langmuir monolayers were
formed and characterized by: (P-A) Isotherm, hysteresis and LB characterization
were made through UV-vis and Atomic Force Microscopy.
