Preusomerins are natural products that belong together with palmarumicins to
a class of natural products isolated fungal cultures. The production of these
substances should be faster than the production of substances coming plants
or trees. This compound was studied as inhibitor for API 5L X70 steel corrosion
in 3% NaCl solution using different concentrations (5,10,20 and 50 ppm) The
corrosion inhibition in static conditions was tested by means of two techniques,
electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and polarization curves. The
preusomerin provides inhibitor properties that protect API 5L X70 steel against
corrosion at low concentrations (10 ppm) obtained by EIS. Polarization studies
showed that inhibitor was of mixed type. The inhibition efficiency by the two
electrochemical techniques shows similar results.
