STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS OF CHAIN-LEVEL STRUCTURE OF
SEMICRYSTALLINE POLYMERS BY SOLID-STATE NMR
Toshikazu Miyoshi 1
1 University of Akron, Polymer Science, United States.
I would like to give two topics in structural analysis of polymers at atomic scales
by solid-state NMR. Recently, we focused on chain-folding structure and
crystallization mechanism of long polymer chains in thin single crystals and
melt-grown crystals. Unique information about folding numbers, fractions and
size of nanobuiding blocks of folded chains clusters as well as detailed
crystallization mechanism will be addressed. Second, detailed chemical
reactions and their mechanisms of industrial important polymer,
polyacrylonitrile, which is precursor of carbon fibers will be provided. Effects of
oxygen on chemical reactions will be discussed.
