– copies <strong>of</strong> the most important slides with sufficient space for notes (in 15 minute pre-<br />

sentations, about 7-8 pictures),<br />

– numbered pages which are stapled together.<br />

– Offer an explanation for the underst<strong>and</strong>ing <strong>of</strong> important terms in the (glossary).<br />

– Check the material before giving it to the participants for legibility <strong>and</strong> completeness.<br />

– Don't forget to note your contact address.<br />

– Give out the h<strong>and</strong>out directly before the presentation <strong>and</strong> give the participants some time<br />

to leaf through it. Give out the complete presentation manuscript only after the presenta-<br />

tion has been given.<br />

– Avoid giving out further materials during the presentation.<br />

2.8 CONSIDER THE TIME FACTOR<br />

– Plan for using at least half the presentation time for questions <strong>and</strong> discussion.<br />

– Limit the time for the presentation to 15 minutes.<br />

– Use attention-getting prompts for longer presentations.<br />

– Try to give your presentation during times <strong>of</strong> increased awareness (later in the afternoon<br />

or early evening).<br />

2.9 PLAN FOR WAITING TIME<br />

– Show up at the presentation room at least 15 to 20 minutes before the planned start <strong>of</strong> the<br />

presentation.<br />

– Check that the media to be used is available <strong>and</strong> works properly, as well as the functioning<br />

<strong>of</strong> the room fixtures, light, <strong>and</strong> where technical assistance can be found.<br />

– Check the material given to participants for legibility <strong>and</strong> completeness.<br />

– Rehearse your presentation, especially the planned start.<br />

– Take time for relaxation exercises (LEHMANN, G.: 2009, p. 94 <strong>and</strong> following.).<br />

2.10 STRUCTURE YOUR ENTRY<br />

– Start the presentation with momentum. Carefully prepare the start, in writing if possible.<br />

– Give the audience a clear indication <strong>of</strong> the focus <strong>of</strong> your presentation, <strong>and</strong> the amount <strong>of</strong><br />

time it will take.<br />

– Communicate to your audience the impression that you are interested in the question <strong>and</strong><br />

discussion sessions, <strong>and</strong> have provided time for this.<br />
