2.1.2.2 ROLES IN THE PROJECT'S ORGANIZATION
Decision-making committee
The decision-making committee is composed of employees at management level of both the
client and the contractor.
Tasks of the decision-making committee:
– Approval of project plans
– Follow-up of the project's progress using status reports
– Support and advice to the project managers for all large-scale problems which may occur
– Decision about measures in conflict and exceptional situations which exceed the skills of
the project manager
– Decisions for continuation or stopping work
– Resolve project groups
Project manager
The project manager is responsible for planning, monitoring, control and conclusion of the proj-
ect. The project manager officially assumes his tasks with the granting of the project contract. He
is technically given responsibility for other project staff in the context of the project work, and to
some extent given disciplinary authority. The relevant skills are given to him for the duration of the
project. He is bound by the decisions of the decision-making committee. If no project controller
is used, the project manager assumes control over the schedule, costs and goal achievement.
Project manager's tasks:
– Lead and monitor the project plan
– Prepare reports and documentation
– Choose the project team
– Give clear task distribution to project members
– Motivate the project members
– Provide overall project decisions
Section project manager
In complex projects, tasks will be transferred to section project managers who are in charge of the
management tasks for their section of the project.
Project members
The project team consists of project members who are fully committed or committed for a fixed
percentage of their time for work in the project. The project members are--depending upon the
organizational form in agreement with the professional department managers--chosen by the
project manager. The project team can be temporarily expanded with additional employees who
can bring significant professional input to the project.
