2.1.2.2 ROLES IN THE PROJECT'S ORGANIZATION<br />

Decision-making committee<br />

The decision-making committee is composed <strong>of</strong> employees at <strong>management</strong> level <strong>of</strong> both the<br />

client <strong>and</strong> the contractor.<br />

Tasks <strong>of</strong> the decision-making committee:<br />

– Approval <strong>of</strong> project plans<br />

– Follow-up <strong>of</strong> the project's progress using status reports<br />

– Support <strong>and</strong> advice to the project managers for all large-scale problems which may occur<br />

– Decision about measures in conflict <strong>and</strong> exceptional situations which exceed the skills <strong>of</strong><br />

the project manager<br />

– Decisions for continuation or stopping work<br />

– Resolve project groups<br />

Project manager<br />

The project manager is responsible for planning, monitoring, control <strong>and</strong> conclusion <strong>of</strong> the proj-<br />

ect. The project manager <strong>of</strong>ficially assumes his tasks with the granting <strong>of</strong> the project contract. He<br />

is technically given responsibility for other project staff in the context <strong>of</strong> the project work, <strong>and</strong> to<br />

some extent given disciplinary authority. The relevant skills are given to him for the duration <strong>of</strong> the<br />

project. He is bound by the decisions <strong>of</strong> the decision-making committee. If no project controller<br />

is used, the project manager assumes control over the schedule, costs <strong>and</strong> goal achievement.<br />

Project manager's tasks:<br />

– Lead <strong>and</strong> monitor the project plan<br />

– Prepare reports <strong>and</strong> documentation<br />

– Choose the project team<br />

– Give clear task distribution to project members<br />

– Motivate the project members<br />

– Provide overall project decisions<br />

Section project manager<br />

In complex projects, tasks will be transferred to section project managers who are in charge <strong>of</strong> the<br />

<strong>management</strong> tasks for their section <strong>of</strong> the project.<br />

Project members<br />

The project team consists <strong>of</strong> project members who are fully committed or committed for a fixed<br />

percentage <strong>of</strong> their time for work in the project. The project members are--depending upon the<br />

organizational form in agreement with the pr<strong>of</strong>essional department managers--chosen by the<br />

project manager. The project team can be temporarily exp<strong>and</strong>ed with additional employees who<br />

can bring significant pr<strong>of</strong>essional input to the project.
