2.1.3 PHASE PLANNING
A project-specific phase plan is developed based on an appropriate phase model.
2.1.3.1 PHASE MODELS
Projects are sections of long-term processes in the lifecycle of a product (Fig. 9).

Projects' goals are to deliver a defined delivery and service scope within a timeframe and an
established budget. These are the so-called project contents. In order to better be able to plan
these contents under the given framework conditions, projects are presented in phase models.
The individual phases synchronize the systematic processes and monitoring of work progress.
At the end of one phase, there is always a decision station (milestone) in which the goals and
results of the respective phase are analyzed, changes considered, and further procedures are
agreed upon by the decision-making committee or the client. The types of phase models include
linear and cyclical models.
Linear phase models extend from simple, 3-step types, such as:
– Finding ideas
– Development
– Implementation
to very detailed, linear designs:
– Prestudy
– Organizational examination
– System design
