The SMART principle helps in properly formulating project goals:
S Specific: Goals must be clearly defined
M Measurable: Goals must be measurable
A Appropriate: Goals must be appropriate to the expense of achieving them
R Realistic: Goals must be achievable
T Terminated: Goals must be given deadlines.
Figure 3 | Target of a project
The project manager must always check goals to see if the goal issues have been answered,
corresponding to all components of the magic triangle, and fulfill the SMART principle.
2.1.1.3 PROJECT PRIORITIES
In order to analyze these priorities, the three sides of the 'magic triangle' can be used as one
coordinate of the priority matrix (Fig. 4). The second coordinate is classification by low, medium
or high priority.
The project manager must clearly state which components of the magic triangle (time, resources
or performance scope) receive which priorities in his project. There is always a basic rule here:
Each priority may only be given once!
